Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are non-malignant coarse protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is infected by HPV through a cut or abrasion. These elevated, skin-colored growths can show up anywhere on the body and often resemble a blister. Despite being harmless, many clients of Bexley Dermatology opt to have them removed as they can be transmitted through touch and they simply don't want warts on their skin!
Typical warts are on hands, fingers, around the nails, or at the back of hands. Plantar warts appear on the soles of the feet and can turn painful without appropriate treatment. Flat warts can occur anywhere on the body, while filiform warts mimic thread-like structures on the face.
