Rashes

Rashes are patches of skin that are abnormal in color or texture and can look bumpy, scaly, or swollen. Caused by psychological and environmental factors, they can bring about itchiness or pain.

What is it?

Rashes lead to alterations in the skin's color, texture, or sensation that might result in inflammation or discomfort. They can be triggered by a variety of psychological elements (such as stress, anxiety, terror, or a traumatic event) and/or environmental aspects (like air pollution, food carcinogens, pesticides, lead, or even extended exposure to computer screens). Rashes may also be linked to numerous conditions like chickenpox, contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, and shingles. Lately, some patients have reported rashes connected to coronavirus infection.

You're not the only one! Rashes affect nearly everyone at some point, so try not to stress. It's typical, and of course, our board-certified team at our dermatology clinic is here to assist.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association advises seeking attention from a board-certified dermatologist if you experience:

  • A rash covering a large portion of your body.
  • A rash that forms blisters, open sores, or raw skin.
  • Fever or sickness accompanied by a rash.
  • A quickly spreading rash.
  • A painful rash.
  • A rash affecting the eyes, lips, mouth, or genital skin.

Our dermatologists in Avon, Sandusky, Broadview Heights, Medina, Port Clinton, and Strongsville, Ohio are ready to provide the best care and treatment for these conditions.

How is it treated?

The type or cause of the rash determines the appropriate treatment. Our therapeutic approach might include medicated creams, anti-itch lotions (hydrocortisone) applied on the skin, moisturizers, topical anti-fungal creams, oral medications, oral antihistamines, and light therapy. Some rashes, while merely discomforting, could be indicative of a more severe health condition. If your rash requires professional attention, make an appointment today with our highly skilled dermatologists in Avon, Sandusky, Broadview Heights, Medina, Port Clinton, or Strongsville, Ohio.
